FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Wave

1. What will student learn and/or gain from this program?

In school curriculum, student learn the 5 core subjects i.e. Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics individually by what is the concept and by understanding its nature.

In Raspi Sekolah program, student learn these subjects by how it really works in our daily life. They learn by how to apply the Science & Technology by hands-on solving a problem or create a solution.

By deep understanding the subject matter and not just memorizing them, it helps student to develop interests (or to renew interests) wanting to learn Science & Mathematics.

Learning by using the Raspberry Pi micro-computer (hence RASPI), student will learn to build, to code and to engineer projects that involves Automation, Robotics, Internet Of Things, Computer Networking, Artificial Intelligence etc. Effectively connecting their normal classroom learning with the real-world applications.

2. Prospect after attended the program?

We teach students to become a “Knowledge Maker”. Hereafter, they can DIY making their own projects that either solve a problem, create a solution or joining a competition.

This is a project-based learning program. Students are encouraged to ask questions, do their own research, teamwork with peers to solve a challenge, think critically and logically, improve articulation of ideas & presentation.

They are trained from young as a scientist. Uncover or even shape their interests from young to prepare for the job of tomorrow.

While not all students would like to join competition, some of our students have performed well in the local as well as overseas organised competitions. The joined either the Robotic challenge or the Innovation based competitions.

Usually schools will nominate their students to be trained by us for competitions. So, the chosen competitions usually are approved by the Ministry of Education Malaysia.

3. How different is this program compare to other STEM program?

Raspi Sekolah program is designed to help school to implement STEAM education. Syllabus guided by KSSR & KSSM (MOE) and GCSE (UK) for Computer Science. Project Based Teaching and Learning approach.

Computer programming is taught in parallel with hands-on physical making by using the Raspberry Pi micro-computer. Supplement the teaching & learning of TMK, RBT, ASK and SK in national schools.

We are not reseller of STEM products. We don’t teach based on manuals supplied by STEM product manufacturer. We research & develop subject matter to learn around Raspberry Pi in our lab. We customise the syllabus according to different student segments as well as different countries.

We teach students to use common materials, recycled materials, using low energy / green energy to make projects for daily applications. Not limited by the functionality / features of the manufactured STEM products.

4. How different this program compare to other Robotic program?

Raspi Sekolah program teaches Robotic as part of the cross curricular learning. Our students learn by what’s inside the robot, the wiring, connections, coding, functions …. How the Robot really works (Not only how to code a robot).

Learn beyond how to make robot car follow a line, avoid obstacles or pick objects etc. Learn to DIY a Floor Cleaning Robot, Grass Cutting Robot etc … self-build and program a truly functional robot. Not Toy Robot.

5. Type of competition suitable to join ?

Any competition about Robotic or Innovation. As long as the competition does not require must buy their own branded robot or use only their branded STEM learning tools.

Our students have joined these and performed well > APICTA, ITEX, ICYS, IYSIE, YIC, Intel Aspire Minds Innovation Space Challenge, ISTEMO, Petrosains Innovations & RBTX, the coveted Pi Wars Raspberry Pi Challenge in Cambridge University UK as well as the UK-China STEAM Innovation Competition by Oxford Innovation Academy and Universities in UK <Check out the competition section for more details>

6. What if I am not good at Science & Maths?

This program can help students to renew interests to learn Science & Maths. Learning is by experience and experiments. Students are encouraged to ask questions. Learn together with peers. Greater internalization through hands-on making. No need to memorize for exams. Either accomplish the project or never. Learning outcome is tangible.

7. What is the right age to join this program?

There is no age limit to learning Science and Technology. Today, kids are playing with handphone or tablet from 3 years old. The 40 years old parent on the other hand may not even code in his entire life. So, there is no right age to learn. Instead, ask yourself are you willing to learn regardless of age or profession.

Since Raspi Sekolah program is designed according to school requirement, the natural age to start learning is from 7 years old in Malaysia, while 6 years old if in China for instance.

8. Raspi Sekolah program approved by MOE?

Yes. Raspi Sekolah program obtained written approval from Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Selangor as well as the equivalent of Wilayah Persekutuan for implementing in schools since 2017.

9. Who are the Program Instructors ?

Computer Science, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering and equivalent graduates / undergrad. Trained to code and make projects before teaching in schools. Guided by experienced MOE Educators as well as former Director of MNC technology company.

10. Who else are learning this program?

Raspi Sekolah program implemented in China and Hong Kong beside Malaysia. Our very own “cross-border student exchange program” called Pi Xchange, every year enable Malaysia students to exchange learning with their counterpart from overseas. <Check out the Pi Xchange section for details>
